Revolving Pavilion

Concept:
The pavilion was supposed to perform as a community Hub in the heart of Manchester Canal that can connect two sides of the waterfront. The concept was to design the building with a flying restaurant and multi purpose spaces suspended on water for workshops and gatehrings. The pavilion form was created in order to provide a good view of the canal without blocking the view of the surrounding areas.

Design:
There has been a growing need for a radical community hub in the recent years since Manchester’s last Social Centre, The Basement, was closed due to flooding. In this design, Manchester canal has been identified as an ideal place for a community hub especially because of a good access to water activities.
This pavilion is a low rise building with a dynamic shape to accomodate activities and it has spaces open to the surrounding areas. The core contains a revolving restaurant to provide sight-seeing from the higher level.
